Designed to cope with most home and many home-office tasks, it also boasts the first use of one picolitre (1pl) ink drops, for a very fine gradation of tones in photographic output. Looking something like a large, Chinese lacquer-work box, the Pixma iP5000 is unusually finished in high-gloss, black plastic, with broad silver highlights along all edges. It's a substantial machine for an inkjet, standing slightly higher than a typical desktop PC case and with a similar footprint."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/875-overview.jpg" /><br /><br />I've had my Canon i950 for a while now, and when I Pixma printers were first announcd I got the upgrade twitch...but it quickly went away when I realized that there were no high-end Pixmas in the product line. No more! The iP5000 and iP8500 are capable of some rather impressive prints - if you're looking for a new photo printer, they're worth a look.

I just picked up this printer last week and al i have to say is WOW.
The day i bought it, i had a requirement to print a 5x7 print for a gift.

We sent in the digital file to a national photo chain who has an online service to print a photo, and deliver it to a store of your choice for pickup.
when we went to pick it up, it was terrible. it was pixilated, and there was a blue line across my son's face!
This coming from a major photo chain claiming to be top quality! (and who i used to work for for 10 years!).

anyways, instead of bringing them back the digital image, i decided to get our family xmas gift a little early.

The 5000 produces a fantastic print. many times better than what Bla...oops...the store had to offer.

The driver software and printing/editing software do a great job of both red-eye reduction and giving you many options of printing.

I used the semi-gloss pro parer by Canon to produce what i would have to say are VERY close (to the eye) to photo-lab prints. The color is spectacular and all this with 3 seperate colors and a black tank.

the nice thing about this printer is that it will hold two different types of paper. you have a paper feed (old style feed from the back) and a tray at the bottom. this allows youto keep standard paper and photo paper in the printer at all times. with the press of a button, you change from feed to tray.
In the store, looking at the 6000's specs, the 5000 had higher resolution. not sure if this is virtual or actual, but it didnt matter, the 5000 will be the last printer i buy for a long time with this level of quality (and fast and quiet!)

great buy!

(sorry, when i type alot, i thend to skip the caps...)
