We have evaluated a pair of noise-canceling technology earphones previously from HCT Technology and their performance was commendable. HCT Technology is back again with their DH-720G headphones that are designed for silent movie viewers who want to get a full 5.1 surround sound effect for their utter pleasure. What has to be the most intriguing part about these headphones is their ability to deliver full 5.1 surround sound to the end user."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/hct_dh_720_g_003.jpg" /><br /><br />These headphones are intriguing as this is perhaps the first set of headphones that I have heard of that will deliver 5.1 surround sound. HCT Technology is currently retailing these headphones for $179.00 at their official store. The guys over at Designtechnica recommend them wholeheartedly.

I'm sorry, but they aren't the first.

Sony have had this for a long time now:

It isn't entirely clear from the review but the gist of what I've read seems to be that the solution is based around the Dolby Headphone specification. Therefore, any home cinema amplifier that has that capability will be doing a similar job, I think. Of course, if your home cinema amplifier doesn't have Dolby Headphone capability then something like this is going to be ideal.
