It uses a 1024 x 600 pixel, 8.9" low-temperature poly-silicon wide LCD, which is the highest resolution screen in its class made by Toshiba. DVD video signals are transferred directly to the LCD without analog conversion using Toshiba's "Direct Digital Playback" technology. In addition to DVD-Video, the player also supports playback of 2-channel DVD-Audio. The included battery pack provides up to 3.5 hours of continuous playback. If desired, the monitor section can be rotated 180 degrees clockwise and laid flat for viewing. With a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, I'm sure it looks great.

I bought one of these years ago and really regretted it. For not much more, I could have bought a laptop with a DVD drive. These days, you can buy a laptop with a DVD drive for $699 if you watch the sales. So unless you are getting one of the pretty cheap portable players, you might as well spend a little more and get a lot more.

I have to agree... who wants to lug a laptop around everywhere? Not to mention, a lot of people don't want a $700 laptop because they already have a $2000+ laptop that meets their needs. Sometimes, simplicity is the key.

Gizmodo was hoping to see this player here in the States. Well, they're in luck. Sharper Image has it for $500: Toshiba DVD Player (http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/productview.jhtml?sku=TO164)

Not too bad a price for all you get. It's supposed to have an optional TV tuner later on (at least according to Toshiba).

I've been in the market for one, and this is the one I've decided to buy. :)

Sometimes, simplicity is the key.Not only that, but show me a $700 laptop that is as light and compact as a portable DVD player. That and software DVD players just aren't as good as the real thing.
