<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos20d/' target='_blank'>http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos20d/</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Not since February 2002 (the EOS D60) has Canon increased the resolution of this line of digital SLRs, in the EOS 20D we have a 1.9 million effective pixel increase, a new AF system, 50% faster continuous shooting and more than double the buffer space. First impressions of the EOS 20D are good, it feels far less 'prosumer like' and instead feels more like a 'baby EOS-1D' (as described by one of our team). Gone are some of the annoyances of the EOS 10D, the 20D now switches on virtually instantly and focuses quickly, it feels very solid and yet weighs slightly less than the model it replaces. So far so good."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/frontview-001.jpg" /><br /><br />Dpreview.com has this extensive review of the EOS 20D and I am quite happy after reading it. They compare the 20D to the 10D (which I own) as well as the Nikon D70 and the image quality of the 20D is basically the same as that of the 10D which means I am not too envious of the newer model. Also, it shows much better quality in images against the D70. Anyways, read on to find out pretty much everything you wanted to know about the camera.

A typically extensive dpreview review ... my eyes started to gloss over

I'm still quite keen on the 20D and think it will make a good replacement for my wife's traiditional Canon SLR. Unfortunately, there appears to be a backlog of orders. Jessops, one of the main photographic shop brands in the UK, told us last week that the backlog was for 600-700 cameras and if we wanted to see one, we'd have to order it and then decide whether or not we wanted to keep it.

Wow ... how long does Canon normally take to clear backlogs of new orders?

Wow - that is a large back order. Could you order from one of the mail order places out of Germany or would it be much more expensive?

I think the 20D is a huge upgrade over the 300D but as Suhit mentioned - the 10D still holds it's own quite well.

The problem is that my wife hasn't had a chance to actually hold the 20D yet. We need to make sure that she is going to be comfortable with all of the controls, etc, before making a purchase.
