With Apple's blessing, Bose has entered the world of iPod with its SoundDock "digital music system," a $300 stereo speaker designed to work with dockable iPods. Bose's SoundDock is a compact and elegantly designed product that comes in just one color--white--though it works just fine with whatever color iPod Mini you might have. The speaker ships with adapters for the Mini and the various generations of iPod (the only incompatible models are the first two iPods, which lack the dock connector on the underside). You simply pop the adapter in the SoundDock's cradle, plug in the power cord, drop your iPod in the cradle (it's a digital connection), and you're good to go. Also included in the box is a small, very basic, credit card-style remote that allows you to advance and rewind tracks on your iPod, control its volume, and shut off the unit (the iPod automatically turns on and the battery charges when you dock it).</i>"<br /><br /> <img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/BoseSounddock.jpg" /> <br /><br />I'd probably run out and buy one of these if it had even one input. I can't see spending almost $300 and being locked into one hardware format. The integreation with the iPod looks superb though (check out the <a href="http://reviews.cnet.com/Bose_SoundDock/4535-6519_7-31134328.html?tag=top">video of the SoundDock</a> in action), but without an iPod plugged in, this is just and expensive paperweight.

Yowch... what a price.

The only thing, and I stress only in the fact that it isn't a $300 dollar only for me, that would make this nice is for a bed side alarm.

Why? Well of course this would work for me and your mileage may vary... but I listen to my iPod fairly often during the day. I connect it to my car audio for the ride in, listen to it periodically through out the day, and basically use up almost all of its power. So I get home and slap it on a charger.

Now if I could drop it on this speaker set next to the bed to charge... and also use the iPod as an alarm (yes they have that function and it works better then my PDA, ahem another story for another time) then I could wake up to music of my choice. Get rid of the huge red number monstorsity from wal-mart and the annoying morning show DJ's.

Yes, I take my sleeping seriously. However not for $300 dollars.

I guess I am back to the airport express idea and just leave the speakers in the bed room running just waiting for a signal. Cept I would have to get up and leave the room to make it snooze. W?BIC. Don't read too much into this.
