<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://griffintechnology.com/products/ibeam/' target='_blank'>http://griffintechnology.com/products/ibeam/</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Griffin Technology Inc., innovator of exciting hardware and software products for the Mac and iPod, today announced the Griffin iBeam Flashlight and Laser Pointer for iPods. The iBeam package consists of two separate devices. The first is a snap-on flashlight great for finding keys in the dark. The other is a class III laser pointer handy for iPod-friendly presentations and other, less professional pursuits. Both units come with a snap-on protective cap that can be attached to any keychain for convenient portability and accessibility. The iBeam lights are intended for intermittent use when they connect to the top of the iPod in place of the iPod’s headphones. The new Griffin iBeam package cost $19.99 and will begin shipping by the end of October."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/prod_ibeam_3.jpg" /><br /><br />Interesting idea. I often use my PDA screen as a flashlight for those embarrassing moments when I drop something in the dark, like my car keys. With this add-on, I can now use my iPod instead!

This is the dumbest idea I have heard of yet for an iPod. $20 for a flashlight or pointer.

I guess they have run out of ideas.

First thing I thought of... was that the laser pointer actually make patterns. You know turn on your ipod, feed music to a stereo system/speakers and the the laser pointer kicks in with the bass... the squigly star-like equalizer pattern starts to show up on the ceiling in beat to the music.

But... uh... it doesn't. Maybe they are taking digital convergence a bit too far.

The pic on the left makes it look like a mister - like the Flonase allergy medicine you squirt up your nose. Imagine the looks you'd get from your friends with the Flonase iPod attachment, LOL.

I feel the same way, but I was trying to be nice to Griffin because they are such a great company. But yes, I can think of a much better way to invest $20 on iPod accessories.

Not at all. Next month they are releasing iCrapper, an add-on module that houses extra bathroom tissue for those embarrassing moments when you use public restrooms without first checking to see if the stall has toilet paper. :razzing:

Yea it hurts to say it, but I expect more from them. Of course I did buy a PowerMate (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powermate/) from them and do love it...

That would be a perfect addition to the pPod (http://www.nykris.com/template.php?id=64) software for the iPod.

best hope you have one of the gen4 ipods that have decent battery-life.. the gen3 don't last near long enough to be running a flashlight.
