The PAL permits IEEE 1394 devices and protocols to be used in a wireless environment at speeds up to 480 megabits per second, while allowing compatibility with existing wired 1394 devices. The 1394 TA also said it will collaborate with the WiMedia Alliance to develop interoperability test specifications and certification programs for wireless 1394. The association's Wireless Working Group and Compliance and Interoperability Working Group will direct collaboration."</i><br /><br />I remember hearing about Wireless Firewire over two years ago, but then nothing came of it. I wonder if, in a world where 802.11b/g is the standard, and WiMax is coming on fast, is there room for this technology? 480 Mbps is a lot of bandwidth, much more than 802.11g, so perhaps this technology will have a chance after all.

I'm all for wireless USB and Firewireless. Same standards everyone is used to, just remove the wires.
This would be great if either of these technologies were integrated into an HDTV...streaming my DV camcorder, PVR, DVD player, etc...to the TV wirelessly :werenotworthy:

This sounds cool, but I think the next killer hardware will be a wireless power source. 8)
I think both Firewireless and Wireless USB are UltraWideBand technologies, meant for short range data transfers, sort of like Bluetooth. Anyway, not in competition with 802.11.

This is all well and good, but it is not quite so impressive especially since I read today that they just broke the 10Gbps wireless barrier. Yeehaw!
