A NAS (120 to 300Gb) equipped with NDAS for the NAS system is capable of mirroring or spanning. It has a Gigabit Ethernet port and a USB 1/2 connection. In the same casing, IO-Data is presenting this external HDD with the same capacity as the NAS, and this HDD comes with Firewire and USB 1/2 ports. This front USB port will allow you to "empty" your USB keys onto the HDD. Both boxes use the same heat evacuation towards the top of the box."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/iodatahdd.jpg" /><br /><br />I saw this NAS and I immediately thought of an external hard drive for a PVR or a music server. The first shipment of NDAS enabled products is expected in the fourth quarter directly from IO-Data and via the company's Japanese retailers. Further development of NDAS products are planned and will be aimed at bringing networked storage capabilities into IO-Data's new home entertainment products.

The style appeals to the gadget-loving geekiness in me. Is it just me or is this thing kind of sexy? Looks pretty high end.

It looks like an air conditioner. I think it's ugly as sin. But I'd hide it in the back by my router...

This is interesting cause recently I've been thinking of a different backup/network storage method and I'm thinking of buying a Maxtor 300 GB external along with a Linksys Network Storage Link, but I'll have to see how much these small NAS units cost.
