The lightweight, portable, self-powered QuickStream DV connects directly to your DV camcorder and captures your DV footage to its miniature high performance hard drive on-the-fly, straight from your camcorder's FireWire port, in your choice of ready-to-edit file formats (.mov, .avi, .dv, and others) while you are shooting!"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/qsdvheadmain20040729.jpg" /><br /><br />Nice one-step solution for those interested.

Very, very cool. Quite expensive, but this is bleeding-edge tech and you always pay more for that. I wonder how long it will be until we see the first cameras coming with hard drives instead of tapes? Tapes are certainly more durable though, so I think they'll be around for a long time indeed.

It is expensive, but oooh - would I love to have one. I'm no film professional (I tape my kids growing up, albeit with a Sony 3-CCD TRV-900), but this would provide so much more flexibility. I love the SureCapture feature, although you kind of have to have your camera on and aimed for it to be of much use.

I don't see it replacing tapes anytime soon, though - they make a great archival format.
