In a test, Intel's Pentium 4 560 running at 3.6GHz and the 3.4GHz Pentium 4 550 failed to outperform alternatives from AMD. The Pentiums, both with the new Prescott core and 1MB of onboard Level 2 cache, were pitted against the Athlon 64 3800+ running at 2.4GHz and the 2.2GHz 3500+."</i><br /><br />It's no surprise that per Mhz, AMD out-guns Intel every time. However, for the past year or more, Intel has maintained a performance advantage in most tests through sheer clock speed. According to tests performed by C|NET, that's no longer the case - AMD has the speed crown...for now. It will be interesting to see if Intel unveils anything before the holiday season. I'm betting they will 3.8 Ghz CPU anyone? Or will they make it all the way to 4 Ghz?

Warning I am a die hard AMD fan. That said what's even crazier is that not only has AMD managed to beat Intel in speed, but also while making it's chips 64-bit! AMD bet the farm on it's Athlon64 and it seems like it paid off, no if only Dell would see the light.... :?

I'm in the process of upgrading my DAW and DVW and after looking at specs for the work that I need these computers to do I'm going the AMD route. I tried AMD a few years back but it didn't work well with audio mixing, but now things are much much better and I can't wait to make the change. The biggest thing now is choosing the processor I want. Those opteron 250's sure do look good

I'm a big AMD fan too, had one for a couple of years, still going strong in my server box, but I find now it's more an issue of which Shuttle I want to buy, and the CPU is a secondary choice. Heh.

I just upgraded my own personal server from a 900MHz P3 to a dual 1800+ AMD, same as my home machine. My work machine is still a P4 3GHz though. Although, my next upgrade is definitely going to involve an Athlon 64.
