http://news.designtechnica.com/article4988.html

"Sharp Systems of America today introduced the Sharp LL-151-3D display, the company's first stand-alone display that features Sharp's 3D LCD technology. This new 15-inch 3D LCD monitor delivers what the company calls "eye-popping 3D images to the naked eye," and can be easily switched between 2D and 3D viewing for standard applications such as spreadsheets, word processing or email ... Users of graphics cards that currently support OpenGL 3D displays with glasses (such as the NVIDIA Quadro cards) will be able to shed their Shutter Glasses and enjoy in the freedom of the Sharp LL-151-3D display right away."

This technology works by using a parallax barrier where light from the LCD is divided so that different patterns reach the viewer’s left and right eyes and the light leaving the display is controlled such that the left and right eyes see different images. When centered in front of the display, each eye receives the correct visual information for the brain to process. I have seen similar products at most of the past CeBIT and PCExpo type shows and they have been a source of instant headache for my friends (although I have been able to cope due to the large amount of time I spend gaming). But the claim is that the technology is getting better and less disorienting for the user. Another feature worth mentioning is that the Sharp LL-151-3D monitor is a 3D LCD display that can be switched between 2D and 3D display modes with the touch of a button. It is available now for just under $1500.

Can you imagine Doom 3 with a 3D screen??? If you thought playing the dark was scary before wait until the monsters are actually coming out of your screen! That would be pretty darn freaky.
