My impression of the final picture quality (particularly color rendering), from best to worst:<br />#1 - C1 - Very balanced color rendering for the default 10D profile<br />#2 - EOS Viewer Utility - A bit more saturated on the red channel, but still generally balanced, surprisingly close to C1<br />#3 - Adobe CS Raw - Somewhat strange handling of the green channel..."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/RawConversionComparison.jpg" /><br /><br />Very cool to know of a free utility that does something like what C1 does with their workflow software. jthurber's weblog has posted a quick review of Canon's new EOS Viewer Utility and generally likes it and I have to say that, in the few minutes that I have played with it, I have too.

I find the CS RAW default settings virtually never suit my tastes for my camera. In fact, it seems to me like any number of the functions in Photoshop have some strange defaults. Of course, it could just be me.

That said, a comparison of default settings for each package doesn't really tell me much about the product's potential . And while it's certainly good to see Canon is offering a converter with good functionality, I still have to wonder why anyone would use it over CS RAW....assuming they already have PS. Obviously, if you don't already have the latter, then it truly is a good thing Canon offers a good package.

Re: C1......it would have to offer a *BIG* advant over CS RAW for me to consider it. And that's not to say it isn't an excellent package, but if it doesn't trump CS in some major way, I just can't justify the expense. Maybe I'll have to trial it one of these days.....just to see what all the brewhaha is about 'workflow'.
