http://www.live365.com/radio365/

Popular web radio feed site Live365 has just launched a new subscription service with media player called Radio365. The player software, which runs on both Mac and PC, allows listeners to tune into thousands of stream casts via the web. Unfortunately this product is not free. The monthly subscription fee is $14.95.

So....why would I pay this much money for media player software, just to listen to audio feeds on the web? Don't get me wrong, I'm not against moving to a pay service. Let's face it, the age of "free" on the internet is long gone. But fifteen dollars? That seems a bit steep to me. $5.95 would be more appropriate, especially for such a new product.

You can download 30-hour trial software here.

Update: It has been brought to my attention that the $14.95 price for Radio365 is in fact NOT a monthly charge, it is one-time only. Sorry for the mistake.

Hmm. I might pay $15 a month to get access to unlimited music (a la Napster), but paying $15 to listen to a pre-programmed radio station where I can't actually select the artists I want to listen to? 8O Nah.
This paradigm is dead, unless they have some unique content that no one else will have.

I'm inclined to agree. Though I will say that some of the content on 365 is truly fascinating. During the dot com hey day, I would often sit at my work PC and listen to archived radio broadcasts such as CBS broadcast of the Apollo 11 moon landing, or old news coverage from 1941 of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Good stuff. If you haven't sampled it yet, I encourage you to do so.
That said, I see no revenue stream here for Live365. I expect them to be acquired and fully commercialized at some point. If not, it's off to the land of bankruptcy for them.

XM doesn't cost that much, and that's wireless. I doubt they have anything I want that Shoutcast or iTunes doesn't.

Hmm, MusicMatch (http://www.musicmatch.com/download/mx_intro.htm?OS=pc&DID=&OEM=MMD) has a "radio" that costs about this much, but you get to make up the stations and skip songs. I can't imagine why anyone would sign up unless you had content that you couldn't get anywhere else.

...and Launch through Yahoo lets you choose your genre and artists for free and Yahoo Messenger has a Launch radio built in!

Folks,I'm a broadcaster at Live365.com. Radio365 costs $14.95 One Time Only. That gets you access to 5.000 or so stations streaming thru Live365 in mp3 & mp3pro sound. There's a 35 hour free trial to try it out. If you decide not to pay,all Professional stations streaming thru Live365 will still be availible. There's one for Macs as well as Windows.
I was one of the beta testers & it sounds sooo much better than Live's other player,Winamp,or Jet Audio (I've had experience with all three). Now,if you want no Live365 audio ads plus access to all stations (between 15,000 & 20,000) without being 'capped out' (all stations have a limit on the # of simultaneous listeners),there's VIP Memberships that Are monthly ($5.95).
Don't mean to be a cheerleader-I read the Press Release & the cost wasn't real clear to me,either.
Love & Peace,claren44
