The Portable Media Player Reference Design, a.k.a. "Jazz", runs Windows CE and is compliant with Microsoft's Portable Media Center (PMC) standard, according to Freescale.<br /><br />Jazz uses a Freescale i.MX21 ("MX" stands for "Media eXtensions") processor based on the ARM926EJ-S core. Specifications of the Jazz reference design board include: <br /><br />•15/20/30 gigabyte 1.8-inch hard drive<br />• 64MB SDRAM plus 64MB Flash memory<br />• 3.5-inch 320x240 16-bit color LCD<br />• Stereo decode, FM radio receiver<br />• TV output support in PAL and NTSC formats<br />• Push-button based user interface<br />• USB 2.0, Ethernet, and UART interfaces<br />• UAT/JTAG/Ethernet for development and debugging"<br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/jazzfront.jpg" /><br /><br />Some interesting information about the Portable Media Center. The only thing missing from the reference design is Firewire. :)

These reference designs end up spawning a lot of "no-name" low cost products so this bodes well for the PMC spec...

Hmm, ARM-based CPU, SD card slot, QVGA screen, CE-based OS.
And Portable Media Center Compliant.
Should be able to build at least an HPC-class PDA out of it, maybe even with PocketPC compatibility.

I'm still at least a year away from needing to replace my Riot so the timing is looking real good for me... :P
