After all, if you want to play the latest games on the move, you're going to need a bit of grunt under the hood. Unlike the Rock last week, this Voodoo is based on AMD technology and the central processing duties are fulfilled by an Athlon 64 3400+. Supporting the AMD CPU is 1GB of 333MHz DDR RAM and a 60GB 7,200rpm hard disk - both these components should help to push the performance of the Voodoo that bit further. "<br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/voodo_envy.jpg" /> <br /><br />Laptops are all the rage now and there are tons of models that claim to be desktop replacements. Usually they are just bigger models that the manufacturers can't claim to be notebooks. Enter the Voodoo Envy M:860. This laptop was built to be a gaming machine and appears to fulfill most of that aspiration. Problems appear related to the AMD CPU, but as more companies use this solution, I can only assume AMD will get better at it. Also, for a gaming computer, 60 GB is way too small (Dell and others offer 80 GB drives). <br /><br />At $4,529.13 though, this is a <b><u>VERY</u></b> expensive solution. 8O

I guess that I can understand a hardcore LAN party-type person spending that kind of money on this rig, but I just can't get excited about any laptop that is over 5lbs. Granted, most rigs in that category aren't going to run the latest games, and may not be the best choice for hard core video editing either, but to me, a laptop is all about portability, and I've spent too much time travelling with our IS dept's idea of a quality laptop (read - cost effective), which is a boat anchor at 7.5lbs. I can't imagine trudging through the airport with a 9+ lb boat anchor over my shoulder.....

I was going to buy a voodoo but ended up getting a fully loaded Dell I8600 (widescreen, 1gb ram, 128mb ATI 9600 pro etc etc) for half the money. Plus Vodoo takes forever to get a system in your hands.

They do look pretty darn cool though and do pack a lot of power - I just don't think it is worth the money - other brands like Sager also have high end notebooks cheaper and Dell is giving the option to stock most everything the Vodoo's offer (although i don't know if they are using AMD chips)
