View Full Version : Canon Optura 300 - Codec 45???

I've taken some digital video with my recently-acquired camcorder. I brought the SD card to work to play a video for a co-worker and I get the following error message in Windows Media Player 9.0.

The audio codec identified by the format tag 45 is required to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help.

When I click web help, I get the following message:

The required codec cannot be found

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required codec cannot be found. To determine how to obtain the codec identified as 45, contact the content provider.

I've gone out to the Canon site and find NOTHING on Codec 45. Nothing on Windows Media Player, either.

I have 2 files for each video. One is a Windows Media Audio/Video file. The other is a file with a .thm extension.

I'm not sure where to go to get further info, so I thought someone here might be able to help.

Thanks!

Wow, this is tricky. Windows Media Player, unfortunately, sucks when it comes to downloading codecs - part of me thinks that Microsoft does this on purpose to make it difficult to use non-Windows Media codecs. I've Googled a bit but haven't been able to find a solution for you, sorry. Perhaps try Canon tech support?

Hi Sunny

If you click here, (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;884769) you will see that Microsoft has posted an article on this issue.

You should be able to get around this by finding a G726 audio codec. Here (http://www.codec-download.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=242&ttitle=G_726_Audiocodec) is a link for one. Give that a go and see how it works.
