<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.photoxels.com/tutorial_white-balance.html' target='_blank'>http://www.photoxels.com/tutorial_white-balance.html</a><br /><br /></div>I am seriously not addicted to setting the white balance on a camera, in fact I set the white balance manually in only about 40% of my photographs. It is just that I have been finding some good articles on the subject so I have been linking to them.<br /><br /><i>"If you come from the world of films, you may remember using filters to correct for incandescent or fluorescent lighting. Most people don't bother and their indoors pictures invariably come out with a yellow/orange or bluish cast. In the digital world, these correction filters are no longer necessary, replaced by a feature found in most -- even the entry-level -- digital cameras called, "White Balance.""</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/whitebalance.jpg" /><br /><br />This article gives a ground up tutorial on what white balance is and how the various settings available in most cameras differ when it comes to the color of light. I definitely list this under recommended reading.

I wish I can manually set the WB before I can take each shot as I am not a fan of orange indoor shots but that is not just possible . The other solution is to have manufactuers to come up with better AWB settings . Based on samples available on dpreview, I see a higher price does not correlate with good AWB as HP consistently takes the crown in that category.

If your camera can do it, shoot in RAW and forget all the whitebalance stuff that your camera does. Adjusting in Capture One afterwards is soooo much easier.

Well, tungsten lighting in a house doesn't vary. So you just set it once and go. The real nightmare is in places like concerts and performances. Nothing like mixed artificial lighting . =P
