I looking around at what my options are to bring the video taken from my Mini DV camcorder. So what packages have you tried and what to you like about it?
I'm looking for a solution for my custom built Intel P4 computer.

Is it safe to assume that you don't have much video editing experience and are looking for something pretty basic?

Yes that is correct.

Ok, well first I've moved it to the digital video section, since this certainly isn't about digital photography. :-)
I personally like Pinnacle Studio - I find the software really easy to use and highly functional. One some computers though, people complain about stability. Sonic Foundry's introductory level tool was quite impressive as well, but it's now owned by Sony and called "Screenblast" I believe. I haven't tried the latest version.
If you're just getting started, I'd actually recommend Windows Movie Maker 2 - it's free, and will allow you to do some basic stuff to learn how video editing works. :-)
