The Sonos is an impressive three part system that consists of a Controller (a wireless LCD equipped handheld with an iPod-like control wheel), ZonePlayer (amplified audio output device), and the music server PC application called the Desktop Controller.
The idea is to install the Desktop Controller on a PC holding your library of digital music (supports: MP3, WMA, AAC (MPEG4), and uncompressed WAV files - also supports Internet radio) and install as many ZonePlayer devices throughout the home for synchronous multi-room music playback or individual music streams for each zone. Since the ZonePlayer has a built-in 50W per channel amplifier, the ZonePlayer can accommodate a pair of speakers and a subwoofer. "

I have to admit, it is a very good looking system that has support for both WMA and AAC. The wireless controller looks really great and it sure would be something to show off to your friends and co-workers. Prices for the ZonePlayer start at $499 and for the Controller at $399. A bundle that includes two players and a controller lists for $1,199. Hmm, might be a bit steep for me, but it sure would look good next to an iPod. 8)

I really hate to rain on parades, but that scroll wheel looks an awful lot like an iPod's scroll wheel. And it's not even a software interface emulating a sroll wheel. If I were in the upper ranks of Sonos, I would have at least had the wheel manufactured in a non-white colour.

Which is why it would look great next to an iPod!
