I would like to transfer all my home movies (super8, vhs and hi8) to the highest resolution format possible. After the transfer to this master format I will use Pinnacle9 to edit MPEG movies.

The book 'Faster Smarter Digital Video' recommends getting everything into avi format, but after reading other sources I am led to believe that DV is a better format.

What would you use?

Thanks,
W

Well, since I wrote that, I should answer this question. ;-) The answer is that they're the same. DV-AVI is the format of the video coming off the MiniDV camcorder. DVI-AVI is a slightly compressed (5 to 1) video file in an AVI wrapper and it's the highest quality you can get from the camera.

Thanks for buying the book. :D
