These new cards (marked as '80x') will be available as 3 GB, 4 GB, 6 GB and 12 GB. The first three cards (3, 4 &amp; 6 GB) are available in Japan as of today, the larger 12 GB card by the end of the year. Despite lower NAND flash prices these cards are still unbelievably expensive, the 3 GB card is 166,000 YEN ($1,490), the 4 GB card is 207,00 YEN ($1,860), the 6 GB card is 525,000 YEN ($4,700), the 12 GB card is expected to be 1,659,000 YEN ($14,900)."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/pretec12gb.jpg" /><br /><br />Wow, almost $15K for 12GB. Sure sounds reasonable ;-). The card will be out later this year and it will be cool to have 12GB of storage, imagine putting it in your DSLR camera and taking hundreds of RAW images. And it is high speed too. So you will be able to take high detail images at great speeds. Of course, the good news is that sooner or later, the price will go down. I wonder when it will reach the more affordable &lt;$500 price range :).

$15,000 ??!??

Good grief!

That's nuts! 12GB on a CF II is pretty amazing, but that price is outta control !!!

You could buy a new car for that money!

Let's see... Let's weigh the scales... A new car? Or a 12GB CF card? Hmmmm...

Give me two Lexar 80x 2GB CF cards (use one while you transfer photos from the other) and an 80GB SmartDisk FlashTrax instead - no down time, greater efficiency, 4GB of room between the two cards - just much, much smarter and MUCH more affordable. Oh yeah, and while I still have over $13,000 left over from this solution, throw in the new car, too!

Yup...bought two of these already. Pretty sweet...I can store all my favorite tunes on them so I can listen to them on my ppc in my giant stone castle that floats 10,000 feet about the Swiss Alps. Had to buy a replacement for one of them, as my 60 foot long pet Dragon, (Draco is his name, natch), sniffed at one and torched it.

Haha, so that is your fantasy, aye? Castle, dragon, PPC, 10000 feet above Alps, 12GB CF card .

Well, there's more involving She-landra my barbarian mistress and ex-cheerleader (Go Huns!), but I had to edit for content.

Yup, must be platinum eggs (not golden, like in some fairy tale)
