No longer it would seem that you have to choose a +R/W or - R/W drive since almost all hardware supports both formats. As typical, <a href="http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1599333,00.asp">Plextor's</a> drive gets rave remarks and the "over-engineered" label. Also typical, <a href="http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1599329,00.asp">Pioneer-based</a> drives get good marks and are much cheaper than Plextor's. As for sub $100 drives (hmm, seems like I need to get out and buy a new faster DVD drive) <a href="http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1599330,00.asp">Light-On</a> and <a href="http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1599334,00.asp">Toshiba</a> look great.<br /><br />If you are not looking toward waiting for a <a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4975">Dual-Layer</a> drive, you might want to check out the ExtremeTech article and figure out what drive best fits your needs. The cost of DVD drives is just so low right now, if you need to upgrade an older DVD burner or even a CD burner, now is the time.
