The company sends you a spindle with postage and a return box; you merely load your CDs and ship them via FedEx. You'll receive your digital music on a set of DVDs or a portable hard drive (for an extra charge). Tracks are encoded at a high-fidelity bit rate of 224 Kbps and properly tagged with artist, track, and album data. Our turnaround time was less than a week."<br /><br />There are two types of people in the world: people who value time over money, and people who value money over time. This service will appeal to those of you who have more money than time, but I'm not convinced there are enough people out there who need this service for it to be viable. My wife and I ripped our 400+ CDs ourselves, and other than the few CDs that weren't in the database, it was a relatively painless process. Would you use a service like this? <a href="http://www.ripdigital.com/">Check it out and tell me what you think...</a>

A great idea for those of us with a large collection of CDs...but the minimum seems to be 100 CDs.

Wish I though of this in College. I could be owning a NBA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Allen) team (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Cuban) at this point maybe.

I used to think this type of service was a bit silly, but quickly realized what a great service it is. Figuring the time that it takes to rip and encode just one CD, I wouldn't hesitate to let another company handle all of this for me. I know how to do it just fine, of course, but the time saved would be worth the money to me - and once it's done, it's done, unless of course you needed it in a format or maybe another bit rate of some sort that you couldn't convert to from the format and bitrate you received back from the company.
There was always the question among people of whether or not the unknown company you sent all of your CD's off to would simply steal them, he he, but I know of another person who had this done and the company seems to be legit.
I'd like to try it.

Hope the company is legit. 100 cds = over $1,000 in value

I've heard of this company in the past, and I think they have a great idea. It could be a very useful service, but they need to be way more aggressive marketing thier services. Otherwise, I feel they'll go belly up.

Looks like iPod owners have an option too.
http://www.loadpod.com/
A division of iPod Garage, LoadPod offers local service in areas including Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Houston, Indianapolis, South Carolina and Minneapolis. Box up your audio CDs and your iPod, and LoadPod will send someone to your home or office to pick them up. Within five days you'll get everything back, and your iPod will be fully loaded with your music, ripped in 128Kbps AAC format, the same format used by Apple's iTunes Music Store. The cost is $1.50 per CD with a minimum of 50 CDs, along with a $20 travel charge. The travel charge is waived if you have 100 CDs or more.
Hmm, send my new iPod away. Can't imagine many takers!

Looks like a good service but don't you think that is a bit expensive. Whenever I get a new CD, I end up ripping it right away. But whenever they pile up, I just stagger the ripping over a couple of days until they are done.

Same here. I'd never use a service like this, and I was honestly surprised that most people seemed to think it was a good idea. That's cool though - if there's a need, I applaud a business that fills that need.
