View Full Version : Glitch Caused Corrupt Foo Fighter Tracks To Appear on iTunes

On Wednesday when Apple released a new version of its iTunes Jukebox software, the company also announced new artist additions to the Music Store as well. One of those artists turned out to be one of my favorite bands, The Foo Fighters (contrary to popular opinion, I didn't choose my nickname based on the band  ). But when I purchased one track off an album, I got a little surprise. The AAC file was corrupt. It actually turned out to be two different tracks that were somehow accidently fused together. The play time starts out in the negative range, -5:43 or something like that, and then counts down to the next song which was the one I purchased. And that song is truncated, ending halfway through.

Apparently I am not alone. Several posters in the iTunes message board had similar experiences. Apple has since fixed the issue, but never contacted any customers who purchased these flawed tracks to issue a warning or resolution. I did send a message to customer service alerting them to the problem but I yet to hear back from them. If anyone else out there got burned like I did, please contact customer service right away to resolve this situation. I'll keep you posted.

I was so disappointed when I found out you weren't actually a member of the band.

I was referring to the definition of "Foo Fighter". Most people think I chose that nickname primarily because I like the band (which was a secondary reason).

For those who don't know, a "Foo Fighter" is a UFO. To be more precise, it's the nickname World War II fighter pilots gave to unidentified flying objects.

Kent, what I want to know is how on earth you didn't have that Foo Fighter track already, and why you would have noticed this in the first place. ;)

Ha! Actually there is a very good reason. I made the mistake of allowing my sister to borrow my copy of There Is Nothing Left To Lose. She returned it in HORRIBLE condition, essentially little more than a coaster now. Because of all the scratching and blemishes, I can no longer rip tracks off this CD. Going to buy a replacement album. Anyway, when I discovered that iTunes was now offering Foo Fighters content, I decided to give this a try.

Let this serve as a warning to the rest of you. DO NOT LOAN YOUR CD COLLECTION!
