Bob12,
I keep checking to see if you've removed 'Coming soon' from your signature line. Have you called the camera shop lately?

Still waiting - I check with them at least once or twice a week for any "late breaking" news. I did notice that Canon has posted the Mark II user manual on their website finally. Maybe that's a good sign. I'll change the signature and post a message as soon as the Mark II is in my eager & impatient hands :)

No, since I already have pictures of it, it's not too bad. What's cruel is that I have an extra battery, a hand strap, a 4gb Microdrive, and a new lens (17-40) setting on a shelf in my house waiting for a camera to attach them to.

Actually, the photo was taken to show that the ETA here was accurate.. the 1DII arrived here last Friday, as expected.

Gosh, I'm honored - my own thread. :) I just spoke with the salesman I'm dealing with on this purchase and their Canon rep has told them that they have been allocated one Mark II in the initial shipment (whenever that is.) The good news is that my name is first on the waiting list. He also said that there is a pretty high demand for the Mark II among sports and action photographers and that they have been told that the majority of the initial shipment was going to those individuals.

It is interesting that you say your name is first on the waiting list. When I was buying my EOS 10D, it was delayed for almost a month (sheer agony), but my vendor kept telling me that I was #1 on their waiting list as well. Of course, given that it took them a long time to ship that camera, I don't know how accurate that wait list was  . I hope you have better luck that I did :).

Congrats! Dust off those new accessories.
Have a great weekend. Probably no yard work this week. We'll be waiting for a report.

An update from an earlier discussion - the 4gb Microdrive I removed from the iPod Mini does NOT work in either the Mark II or the Pro1. The Mark II says it's not formatted but then refuses to do so. I had tried it in the Pro1 with the same results so I pretty much expected it not to work in the Mark II either. However, since I found a site which sells the drive for $400, I purchased one there (which does work in both cameras) and will use the one from the iPod for transferring pictures and other files between my two computers. So, it wasn't a total loss :)

Gary - Whew! That'd bring dial up to a grinding halt! I've taken a few sample shots and they ranged from 3.5 to 5.75mb. That's with the default 8.2mp jpeg with level 8 compression. The camera allows 10 levels of jpeg compression with 10 being the least. I'm going to try some shots tomorrow with various settings to see if I want to alter the default compression setting of 8. With this setting, the camera tells me I have room for 1283 shots on the 4gb Microdrive and 512mb SD card. Of course, that'll likely drop as I take more pictures and the true file sizes are factored into the calculation.
I will post some samples in my Webshots Portfolio but they're limited to 2400x2400 so the pictures will be resized but still should provide some indication of the quality.

OK, for anyone who cares, I've posted a couple of pictures from the EOS-1D Mark II on Webshots. I'm still learning its control interface and other bells and whistles but I took advantage of the nice morning weather to try some outside shots this morning. Webshots has a maximum resolution of 2400x2400 pixels so the website reduced the images from their original 3504x2336.

Good stuff! Nice to hear you finally have the camera. :-) Feel free to post a quick mini review about the camera and we'll link to it on the front page. Or if you want to post a full review, contact me privately and we'll talk about publishing it.

Bob - about the 4gb microdrive... my co-worker got one with the muvo2 and was able to reformat it on his PC and then it worked in his D70. Sounds like you have it covered but if anyone is curious I can find out the specific details...
Jason - you can move this to another topic if this is not the right thread for this info

I've read on photo.net (http://www.photo.net/equipment/hitachi/mp3microdrive/) that the muvo2 Microdrive will be recognized in camera, but the iPod mini Microdrive won't.

I tried formatting the iPod MicroDrive on several computers, even a 16 bit format once and nothing worked. On the PowerShot Pro1 and an EOS-10D, it locked the camera up so that the battery had to be removed to power it down. On my 1D Mark II, the camera first reported that the MD was not formatted but then was unable to read the drive when I tried to format it.

More than a month ago I read a statement from a Hitachi rep saying they were altering the drives in the Muvo to make them not work outside the device, which is what they did with the iPod mini. So I think it will be very hard to find a 4 GB drive that works from a muvo2 now.

Read the same thing. So far, in the Sony Dpreview forum, people are still reporting success stories, and nobody has *not* gotten their muvo2 drive working. Still don't know if the "changed" drive is myth or reality, but it sounds a bit of a gamble to me, that I'd only take if I'd like to use the muvo2 as an MP3 player if the microdrive thing doesn't work. ;)

I wonder whether it is something in the Firmware and/or the PROM of the drive :?. Though, why should they care if it is used outside the device?

I'd guess it's an economic thing since the MSRP of the 4gb drive is $500 USD. I was able to find one for $400 though.

Good point. I guess I can see the reason :).
