Flagship in the excitably named WOOO range (which signifies “wonder”, “world standard” and “worthwhile”, in case you were wondering) is the MS-DS400, the first product to get the recently announced Hitachi Global Storage Technologies 400GB drive. It’ll play DVD-RAM/-RW/-R discs, and will record to DVD-RAM/±RW/±R."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/hitachi400gb.jpg" /><br /><br />The MS-DS400 does not appear to have any TiVo-like technology though apparently it has a range of search and display functions to help in keeping track of the up to 67 hours of high quality video you can record. Release date is approximately mid-June in Japan, and will apparently sell for around Y145,000 (~US$ 1355). The MS-DS250, also announced at the same time will have a 250GB drive and should sell for around Y 125,000 (~US$ 1170). Both devices will support 5 modes of recording - 5 modes of XP+/XP/HSP/SP/LP (where XP+ is the super hi-bitrate of 12Mbps). We are going to need this kind of space for HDTV though...

I agree completely. There is nothing that that innovative except putting the burner and the HD in the same box and giving higher definition recording abilities. You can get the same function with a newer replay TV, DV Archive, and a DVD Burner in your computer.

I have the same issue with the big price differences on the larger Replay's vs. the base models. Only difference I know of is the size of the HD since AFAIK the features are the same. Why is it so much more for a 160G drive vs a 40? The Replay site sells a 40 hour (40G) version for $149 + fees, yet they charge $300 more for a 160hr (160g) version!! That price difference is double the current going rate of $1 per gig for consumer hard drives. Give me a break.
