It has a 1/2.7 inch CCD and features a 10x optical zoom to capture still images and high resolution (VGA) full motion movies on MPEG4 format with zoom capability. "The new Optio MX is the first step into the production of full-capacity digital video and has a price tag under $400. For optimal results in panoramic settings, a wide conversion lens will be available as an accessory to the Optio MX. The new Optio model will ship to dealers in June 2004." Take a look at the <a href="http://www.letsgodigital.org/images/artikelen/39/pentax_optio_MX.jpg">following photograph</a>, it gives a good idea of how small the camera really is.

Photo linky no worky but if you go to the article you can see it.

Has anyone here even used one of these types of cameras - the tapeless kind? How is the recording quality? Does it rival digital tape cameras?

Wow, you are so right. If I enter the URL http://www.letsgodigital.org/images/artikelen/39/pentax_optio_MX.jpg into my browser, it works fine, but then I the link doesn't work. Very odd. Probably some funky script?!
