Ok, I know what resolution means and how to read the horizontal and vertical specs etc. What I'm unclear on is what the symbols stand for. I know VGA and WVGA specs but what are XGA and SXGA (I think that's one) currently I have a 1024x768 so what resolution is that?

Could someone rank the resolutions from lowest to highest with pixel counts? Or point me to a site for it. Thanks so much. I'm computer shopping now :D

Try this chart.

Output.............Screen Size...Video RAM Required
VGA................640x480........1 MB
SVGA..............800x600........1 - 2 MB
XGA................1024x768......4 MB
SXGA..............1280x1024....8 MB
Super XGA+....1400x1050....8 MB
Ultra XGA........1600x1200....8 MB

Good luck shopping!

Are there any special symbol names for widescreen formats?
