From a DMT point of view, think of the number of people that will be mailing large media files (MP3, WMA, WMV, AAC) back and forth. I wonder how Google's mail gateway is going to be able to handle/limit this, because they certainly have the bandwidth to move those kinds of files. There are also a couple of screenshots now available at fury.com.

Furthermore, Slashdot (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/04/05/006205
) is reporting that The Register has an interesting article which "details the new privacy concerns about Gmail's privacy policy and Google's tracking habits. The policy states that Google will not guarantee the deletion of emails that are archived even if you cancel your account."

The privacy issue was something I had concern about. But then I have no idea how Yahoo is treating my emails....

So when I get those Viagra emails, I assume there will be some great "Sponsored Links"?

Oh and if there is porn spam, do I get a "I Feel Lucky" button too?

I don't care if Google is printing out all of my e-mail and posting it in the company breakroom.

1000 MB + Google Technology = Euphoria :D

I'll prolly sign up, but it'll be like my hotmail account - just a free backup in case I can't get one of my other email accounts to work. The best bet is just to host it yourself or get some cheap or free web hosting so you know what happens to your email.

Yeah, that is pretty much how I was going to end up using it , I don't feel that I can realistically use Gmail if all my email would be scanned.

Check out Spymac.com - it's a Mac enthusiast site that offers 100 mgs of free webspace and 1 gig of email starting today, WITHOUT the privacy invasion of Google Gmail! Once again the Mac community steps up to the bat and hits it out of the park 8)

It might just be me, but I can't get spymac working. I signed up, got the confirmation message, and activated it, but get "no user data" when I try to log in. And the supplied e-mail doesn't tell me my password that I just made.

Plus, you need to enter personal information. And Mozilla doesn't work.

Close, Spymac, but actually working is pretty high on my list of requirements.

This is probably a stupid question, but spymac email is usuable across platforms, right?

My mail is working ok now, but there may be occasional hiccups while they get the service up and running.

And yup, it is cross-platform.

Does Spymac or gMail support POP3?

From Spymac's site - Spymac Mail also offers both POP3 and Webmail access to the email accounts.

No information on Gmail yet though. I am guessing they will though.

Yup..no valid userdata. Maybe it takes a day or two?

:?:
My guess is that they have had a surge in membership the last day or two with the introduction of the gig email and maybe that has caused a few glitches?
I have had a Spymac membership for a few months now, so my email setup might have been expidiated a little quicker?

Keep trying and let me know what happens...

I went back to the confirmation email and clicked the activation link *again* and it worked. Pretty slick...but now I have to email a fat attachement and see how that goes...
