It turns a scanned sample of your handwriting into a handwriting font that you can use in your word processor or graphics program, just like regular fonts such as Helvetica."<br /><br />Always wanted your own font so that when people complain about you not hand-writing them letters you can say "No! That IS my writing!"? Sure you do. ;-)

This is cool, and it's free.

Free? eh...no, it's not free. They charge $9 for it. So now after taking the time to print it out, scan it in and upload it, they're gonna charge for it. No way I'm gonna spend $9 on that. :|

Wow, this is pretty cool. Years ago Macromedia offered a tool for custom font design called Fontographer, which is still available but hasn't been updated in YEARS. This looks like a handy little tool.

It would be curious to see what your handwriting looks like Jason! :) Are there any free tools that allow me to create my own handwritten font?

Ah nuts...I was sure this was free when I first saw it! Updated my post. $9 is pretty cheap though if you want to look at your writing. ;-)

My handwriting is, well, sloppy at best - and it's getting worse over time. I hardly use a pen anymore except to sign a credit card bill. ;-)

I looked for some free options, but I couldn't find one.

You can look at a preview of the font for free, but in order to get the font file you have to pay. Mine didn't turn out great, and I prolly wouldn't have used it for much, so I'm gonna do without it.

Yeah, I don't know if I want people seeing my crappy handwriting.

Can you use someone else's handwriting?

Ok, that's just creepy. I don't know what I'd ever use it for, so I'm not spending $9, but the preview string looked just like my crappy printing. It's like I wrote on my monitor in a sleepy stupor or something.

Creepy.

I did this a few months ago with the Shareware product "Font Creator Program v4.1". Works great!

I downloaded that font creator David but I guess I didn't see how I could scan my handwriting into a font. I guess I'm just stupid. :) Oh well.

No, you're not stupid. I am for spending two hours making a font!

You need to write out every single letter (caps too) and symbol, scan them in, and crop each letter to a BMP. THEN you can start the program.

Wow. 8O All of a sudden $9 seems like a FANTASTIC deal. :D

$9 isn't that much and it is kind of a neat novelty. Thanks for the note.

$9 is cheap, and it is a novelty ;) - but the results are a bit questionable - it's too disjointed to appear as your own hand, I'm afraid.

Also, it's only useful if you A)Tolerate that, and B)Print your communications, as (doh) no-one else has it and so would see 'default' font for things you sent them, wouldn't they?

Mayhaps Steves' way is better - what do they say about pain and gain again? :)
