I heard someone recommend this book in another thread. What's the general consensus on it? How about it's sequel on 50 Photoshop techniques? Is that worth it, too? Someone else suggested "National Geographic Photography Field Guide," but the reviews at Amazon.com were less than flattering.
I figured that it would be better for me to buy these books so that I could stop creating so many threads per day. I don't want to wear out my welcome here...

Like I said in the other thread (http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4541) :), 50 Fast Digital Camera Techniques is a good book for beginners.

I know, I know, I'm sorry. I just want to find the right book for me. Another book I read good reviews about was "How to Photograph Your Life" by Nick Kelsh. The reviews for that were all very good, but I'm not sure whether to pick that over this one, or vise versa.
Yes, I'm penny pinching.

Here is a book that I would recommend - it is called Photography (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0130282715/qid=1080440630/sr=8-2/ref=pd_ka_2/103-2974362-1441453?v=glance&s=books&n=507846), authored by Barbara London, John Upton, Ken Kobré and Betsy Brill. It is a very good introduction to photography, in fact it would even be good for some experienced photographers and has gotten better and better over its 7 editions. However, it is definitely not cheap at $83 :(.
