One other point, those buttons on the device (from the picture above) sure look like they are right out of the Toshiba e805 ;-).

I wonder how accurate the specs on the box is. First of all it says, 20/40 GB versions. Doesn't make sense, since the iHP-300 name suggests a 30 GB drive. :?
Second, does the USB host mean that I can connect say a media reader and download images directly onto the device?
Everything else about the device (apart from the 2" color screen) sounds pretty similar to current gen devices. Unless of course, the pic of the prototype between the person's fingers is correct. In which case, the iHP-300 is going to be the smallest 30 GB drive out there. 8)
Also, can anybody recognize the kind of material/metal used as the front cover? Looks like the carbon fiber hoods used to soup up street racers...

Actually, an iHP-130 name would probably correspond to a 30-gig drive, based on their previous naming convention. The 300 series might be for their color screens?
Do you guys think this is a media player (i.e., audio and video) because of the color screen (despite the 2" size) even though there is no mention of it in the packaging? If the pictures are to be believed, it looks darn small! I just hope it can play protected WMAs.
I've been wrestling about getting the iHP-120 for months and finally gave in and placed an order yesterday. Maybe I can still cancel it...

I saw a iHP-120, awesome device. The 140 in black looks even better. If the sound quality is at least as good as the iPod, I'll take the iRivers over them any day. If the 300 series is similarly priced and sized, it's a no-brainer!

Hmm - I don't think this is going to be a media player. The spec card showed support for audio files, not images of video. My hunch is that you might be able to load up a wallpaper-type image for the display, but not a lot else.

I did read somewhere that you use the color display to browse pictures on the hard drive. 8)
Imagine, being able to browse through the album art while listening to your favorite CD. What more can you ask for from a no-nonsense jukebox?

All good questions, I think we will just have to wait for iRiver to give more details.

Really?! I know you have one but I didn't realize you didn't like the buttons.

oh, lazy me would prefer a joy stick or scroll wheel where it can stay at one position.

Yeah, good point, I am surprised they changed the look of the H300 from the iHP 140 so much.

What I'm more worried about is any "slowness" in navigation due to the switch to a color display. You know....screen changes and button clicks being registered. It's bad enough trying to scroll through a 150 directories on a 2" screen with 6 lines of text.
I noticed it happen when I switched to a color screen cellphone. Don't you just hate it when you start working faster than your computer/<insert any digital device>.
