The company's VC-9 Video decoding technology has won acceptance by a standards body working to create the next generation DVD format, the successor to MPEG 2. However, the approval is only provisional. And further details must be worked about before the DVD Forum can approve a final format. But this move certainly gives Microsoft a solid foot in the door.
