I have a very nice Samsung Yepp YP-700H with Radio! Its excellent and it has 256mb of memory, I compress my MP3s and I get so many songs on it.
I also burn CDs with MP3s on them for my CD player in my van, I don't like the Iroc.. Poor quality and batteries dont last very long.

I mostly listen on the bus. For that, my iPAQ 2215 with 512MB CF and Sony fontopia headphones are just great!

So I just bought an iRiver iHP 140... perhaps my best decision this year (yeah I know we are only one month into it). It is the same size as an iPod, perhaps just a hair lighter, has incredible battery life and the music quality is incredible.
Of course everyone knows that the featureset is extensive, but I do have to add that the look of the device is VERY appealing. I am not disappointed at all, in fact I like the look of the iRiver (perhaps) a little more than the iPod. Of course, when it comes to UI, the iPod is supposed to win hands down. But I was pleasantly surprised with the iHP. It is not necessarily intuitive at the beginning (unlike the iPod) but once one reads the manual and/or plays with the unit a little, I think it is just as easy to control. The screen is beautiful, and of course, the remote with the LCD screen rocks.
The only thing that sucks about the iRiver so far is the packaging. It literally requires the jaws of life to get the device out of its packaging :-(. But I recommend the device whole heartedly.

You gonna do a review for the site? :D

I've held Suhit's iRiver device, and it's not bad, but I personally prefer the iPod's styling.

Here, we're gonna have to disagree. But that's probably fodder for its own dedicated thread. ;)

I couldn't vote in this poll because my option was missing: "I use another device to play MP3s..." :D (in my case, a Pocket PC)

I bought a tiny little (but still 256mb) mp3 player for my daughter for Christmas and she loves it, I just play my music from my iPaq 2215 when away from home.

I use both my Pocket PC and an iPod for MP3 playing. I still find it amazing that I can have my complete CD collection wherever I go with my iPod. And on my Pocket PC I usually carry my latest album or two, so I can listen to that when I want to and I don't have my iPod at hand.

Gary, don't take this the wrong way...but your polls always seem to be (at least) one selection short. :D
I use my Axim for .mp3's but not much. For Xmas, I got the Mrs a Durabrand 10 CD/mp3 changer for her car and loaded it up with .mp3 CD's and she just loves it. It is above and beyond our currently most used digital audio device usurping our PC (which is patched to our home theater).

I wanted to get an iPod but I put it on hold until I can see some evidence that Apple has a remedy for the battery problem. As for the mini iPod, it seems nuts to get a 4 GB player for $250 when you can get 15 GB at $300.

Im a poll king-in-training....or maybe I leave one option out to see what makes you tick?

I think the whole purpose for the mini is for people to say: "i want a flash mp3 player no more than $200....but hey look...i can get the mini for only $50 bucks more" and as you are about to purchase the mini you say to yourself "hey...if i add only a $50...i can get soooo much more for my money" nice strategy Jobs is taking over the world with ipods!

Hi,
I have two at the moment, thoug hI have had 5 in total...
An Oracom ORC-200m (basically like a Muvo but much better), ideal for back an forth to the office taking music from home to work. I have a huge collection at home and it means I can listen to them in the office.
If you haven'y seen the ORC-200 it's basically a USB drive, but looks great. http://www.mp3-plus.net/product.php?prodID=63
I have also just bought a Xen EMP-200... Cool as!!! Just take a look..

They are different beasts. The Xen is a 128MB or 256MB flash player.

And I wouldn't necessarily classify the iPod as king. There are others making a serious bid for the throne. :-)

Strictly by features, other players have already passed the iPod. However, the iPod is still the marketshare leader -- and that's unlikely to change for the near future.

hi,
The Xen is a great player and has great direct encoding inputs.
I can honestly say that as far as iPOD is concerned I have never particularly liked it... Check this blog out for details of a new Juke box coming from Cowon/iAudio..

I have an (old) Nomad Jukebox 3. The latest (Christmas-ish) firmware is quite appealing becasue of the new gui but takes some getting used to. Of course, I also use my iPaq for this purpose. It got me hooked on WMA.
I use both with a set of Sony MDR-EX70LP headphones but I've found them uncomfortable of late so I ordered a set of Sennheiser PX200 headphones which I hope arrive really, really soon.

I personally use my Ipaq for an iPod replacement (that needs some clarification). When I am on the road I use my Ipaq to listen to music on the plane or even jogging on the hotel treadmill. This reduces the amount of things I have to pack and I only use it on the treadmill in a waterproof zip-lock. I would however like to find a skin for WMP that displays the Track and Title info in large print so that you can easily see it in the car or on the treadmill, but that is a rant for a different time.
At home I use an old Nike flash player for jogging on our local trail. A flash player works great for this, small, no moving parts and water resistant. Unfortunately, I would not recommend the old Nike player (I haven’t tried the new one, but I hear it is not that good), because it is buggy and often I have problems getting the computer to recognize it. I am looking at getting the Rio Cali because it has the same advantages (water resistant, small, strap for jogging) as well as an FM radio if you get sick of your music that you were too lazy to replace (one of the problem w/ a flash player vs. a hard drive one). It also has an SD card so I can continue to use it with my ipaq.
If anyone has suggestions for a good player to jog with I’m all ears.

I have an IPod that was given to me as a gift. It's an amazing piece of kit, but since I don't own a Mac, I have to use Ephpod to xfer music to it. Today I got a Lexar 128mb mp3/usb drive. It cost me 42 dollars shipped, the interface couldn't be simpler and you drop and drag your files into it, just like any other USB drive. A bit chunky for a USB drive since it has a backlit display, but comes with an extender to hook it up. I love it.

Why don't you just download iTunes (www.itunes.com) for Windows? Works exactly the same way as the Mac's, and it's quite a bit better than EphPod (unless all you need is basic file transfer).

Got a 15gig Dell DJ as May birthday present. Very happy with it.
I like Dell products. Never have had a problem with them (although others have experienced problems).
IPod was never a consideration because of being overpriced. Moreover, it doesn't play native MP3. I have about 100 CD's burned down and copied to CD-RW for auto CD player. I'm not going to waste my time converting them to another format.
