The brand new Motorola Q9 with Wi-Fi we just got? Yeah, that has Windows Mobile 6.1 on it! We&rsquo;re getting the video up soon, but for now, check out our full Windows Mobile 6.1 gallery, and the new things we found!&quot;</em></p><p><img alt="" border="1" src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/500/spt/auto/1196728527.usr266.jpg" /></p><p>Wow! Double wow! The recent <a target="_blank" href="http://forums.thoughtsmedia.com/showthread.php?t=23663">Mobius</a> related posts had mentioned the existence of Window Mobile 6 update, and we knew that we would be getting some more details soon. But I wasn't expecting it to happen so quickly. The first big news item is that Motorola is working on an AT&amp;T branded Q9 with Wi-Fi, you can check out the details in <a target="_blank" href="http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/12/03/motorola-q9-with-wi-fi-psh-yeah/">this Boy Genius Report post</a>. The even bigger news item is that it is running Windows Mobile 6.1 Beta. It features a new home screen with left-right scrolling for missed calls, emails and other functionality. Head over to <a target="_blank" href="http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/12/03/windows-mobile-61-standard-in-100-pictures/">this post</a> for more details. After checking out the screenshots, we can agree with the Mobius attendees about their comments. It is true that Windows Mobile 6.1 features a lot of must-have features and improvements, like copy-paste, threaded SMS, recent programs in start menu, auto-complete for To: field while composing emails and much more. It also has something called the Getting Started wizard, that I am sure will make newcomers to the Windows Mobile world feel comfortable. I am super excited about the features I have seen so far, and can't stop wondering the improvements that might be in the Internet Explorer. Unfortunately the Q9 with Wi-Fi comes with Opera pre-installed, so we will have to wait a bit longer to uncover the Internet Explorer improvements. So what do you like the most about the Windows Mobile 6.1 feature set?</p>

I'm digging the new homescreens, so far, that is my favorite new feature :)

Looks like 6.1 is going to be a really refined version of WinMo (I'm diggin' the Home Screen also). I'm wondering if there are any improvements to PIE?

It all looks really nice but I wish Microsoft would improve the mobile experience of Explorer and Media Player. They are the two that are consistently lagging.

I'm sorry, as much as I love Windows Mobile, I can get a lot of that functionality with third-party software nowadays. whereas it would be nice to have it out of the box and help silence the naysayers, I'd still like to see Pocket Explorer and Media Player get some real attention.

It should be a company affront that some other browser (Opera) was voted better than the included one.

Just my two cents and I WILL be getting the new OS even if I don't use it for any more than the threaded SMS and Copy/Paste :D

Looks real nice.

Yeah, I forgot to add Media Player experience along with pIE; that needs to be fixed. One thing I noticed was that the Getting Started wizard had a step to sync music files. Let's hope there is more of it.

Regarding pIE, he does state:

Internet Explorer now lets you define a homepage, and also zoom in and out using a nice and clean interface

You and me both. I'd have to have buyers remorse so soon after getting a new phone.

I might be confused with an iPhone owner:p

LOL. Good one.

I am guessing that the products that shipped with WinMo6 will get a update. But devices like Dash, that got an upgrade to 6 might not see 6.1. BTW I am Dash user and don't like my own thoughts. :-(

Yeah, I was a Dash user myself.

But once I tried out the Q9h, I said good bye to my Dash.

I'm sure hoping we get some official word from somebody soon.

BGR is silent and there has been no other sighting of this WiFI enabled Q9.

Let me just say that a bunch of screen shots do not tell the whole story. :)

No, they don't.

I'm happy to see someone break the code of silence over Windows Mobile 6.1 however.

BGR really needs to come clean about this phone. They can't be the only folks who have this phone and then not release any more details.

Code of silence? That makes it sound like we're all in some mysterious cabal. :D It's just un-released software, and most people involved are under NDA - just not everyone is respecting that NDA.
