Though the unit is officially called the SGH-i620, it's also known as the BlackJack slider because it looks like a shrunken BlackJack (that's the SGH-i607) with a slide out keyboard. So what's different between the i607 and i620? In the next two weeks or so, we'll cover the device in full via video reviews, but in summary: the i620 adds a faster processor (400MHz versus 201MHz), front-facing video camera, a 2MP camera on the rear, stereo speakers, and touch-sensitive keys on the front with a rotary wheel built into the D-Pad. Unfortunately, the device doesn't have WiFi."

I have to say, even though the Samsung Blackjack slider is a tad ugly, it is also very appealing. Out of all the new Smartphones that have been released lately, the new Samsung Blackjack Slider is on the top of this list for devices that I would like to own. Brandon Miniman of Pocketnow.com has done a gret job on this unboxing video and I absolutely loved the comparison shots. Hopefully I'm not alone in my desperately wanting to own this device. So what do you guys and gals think? Should I buy one or not?

The specs I saw for this phone indicate it's Tri-Band with only Euro 3G support. If that's true, it's a non-starter for me as I need the 850 Mhz band and want 3G support for any of my phones. Otherwise I really like it, looks quite pocketable, though I'm guessing the keyboard is a little tough to use, much like the old Samsung i730 slider. Still...

I'm betting that Samsung wants to avoid stepping on AT&T's toes. Also, this is much smaller than the i730.

Yeah, this is a tri band device. :( Otherwise, it would be a great phone, IMHO.

I'm getting mixed results on the i640 (big brother version of this device). Originaly, I heard it was quad-band, but now I'm hearing it's no different than this. Just without the branding.

A tri-band device really wouldn't bother me that much as I now live and work extremely close to a tower and really don't get time to travel much anymore due to how busy work is. Than again, I might start traveling again in the near future... Oh, decisions decisions!

It's all about the future, and who really knows where you'll be in 6 - 8 months. Maybe there won't be a change. On the other hand, perhaps your employer moves to a new office, or gets purchased and the office is relocated to the new parent company. Or maybe you get assigned a contract that requires you to travel to the client site.

;) just trying to stir the pot a little. :D
