Now, we have pictures. There's a nice amount of info in these pictures. First off, is the fact that the i780 Pocket PC based device from Samsung is not version 2 of the BlackJack. The BlackJack II adds a 2 mega pixel camera, a new control pad that appears to be more wheel like, a different number pad layout, and a cool new color! I'm pretty sure the date on the home screen is not an indication of when the device will be released. There appears to be a dedicated camera button, AT&T button, and a TV button. On the top right hand side of the phone, there appears to be a LED of some sort, which is a little disappointing. I liked how the original device had no flashing lights.

Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words. So, what do these pictures say to you?

First off, i understand that the US still does not have the SGH-i600, which has long been avalible in Europe and Asia. Europe and Asia also has the WM6 avalible now.

So, SGH-i600 comes with HSPDA/Wifi/2 cameras, WM6. So besides the reorganised keyboard and glossy finish, the Blackjack II has only a better 2MP camera than the i600 ???

I'll tell you what this picture says to me... I can probably hang up any hopes of that WM6 update for my i607 Blackjack! That reeks!

Is it me, or is it missing the scroll wheel?

Let me state I love my 607 (had it since LAST November), however...

Still no WiFi (like its Euro cousin)...

Same stupid charger/headphone "blade" on the top side of the phone...even 2.5mm jack would be a major improvement...

Only 2 mpxl camera with no autofocus (check out the AT&T Tilt)...

I like the light feature. Two reasons:

1. It provides a visual indication of a missed message/voice mail/etc. without having to turn on the screen and look.
2. Plenty of hacks around that allow you to turn off the light if you don't care for it.

I also like the over all look. Just hope, as I stated in a different post, they let us use the same batteries/chargers and they fix the bluetooth problems!! :)

I think the idea is that you use the new circle d-pad on the front to scroll (like an iPod).

That's kind of what I figured. But I was just getting used to the scroll wheel :)

I agree with rubik; I don't understand why Samsung/AT&T will not release a US 3G version of the i600 WITH WiFi along with 3G. AT&T has already established that they're willing to do the UMTS/WiFi route, as they've done in the past with the 8525 (which I own) and the Tilt (which I just got). None of their business decisions seems to make any sense to me.

As for the camera, I guess a 2MP would be nice, but I must admit I have never even used the camera for anything other than uploading a photo to test my Vox account. While they're at it, why not bump it up to 3MP? Is going that high that much more expensive or does it really take up any more device real estate than a 1.3MP camera? I'm not into photo optics, so I really don't know.

A bit off topic but since you mentioned it.....

What are your thougts on the 8925. I have a BJ and have been thinking about getting the 8925. I'm a bit concerned about the larger size but I think I can deal with it and just use by BJ as weekend/go out phone and use the 8925 for work.

Seem like it is almost the exact same device but only with a camera. Whoooooo, big deal.

To be honest, Samsung did such a great job on the i600, there really is nothing much left to add onto the phone. Besides a faster processor and new camera, what else can be added to the phone ?

1. WiFi (like it's Euro cousin)
2. GPS
3. 3.5mm headset jack
4. USB mini-d recharge/sync port

I have to say that this device is a major disappointment to me, personally. While it is nice to see more devices with tri-band UMTS (I won't buy another device without this feature), the absence of WiFi is unacceptable, IMHO. :(

While I've retired my Blackjack to my desk drawer in favor of my newly-acquired S630 (Cavalier), I was relatively happy with the device, but wishing it had WiFi like its European cousin (i600). Even the absence of the GPS didn't bother me, due to the fact that I have a TomTom BT GPS unit I used with it.

I must admit, however, that since I've gotten the TyTN II, it is nice to have the GPS built into the device, it's one less thing to carry on my frequent trips to Europe.

All in all, it's just another ploy the U.S. manufacturers are using to sucker new(or existing) users into indentured servitude for another two years!
