That's right, we also have confirmation that Microsoft will be making the Zune 2 announcement on Wednesday, which should give the Zune tattoo guy plenty of time to get some new ink before the holidays.&quot;</em><br /><br /><img border="1" src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2007/10/zune-1-running-2.jpg" alt="" /><br /><br />Not content with merely updating the hardware, Microsoft has seen it fit to give us early adopters a break, granting us the same features that are rolling out with Zune2, Engadget reports. Not only that, but we're also getting a complete software and Marketplace overhaul. Folks, this is truly an exciting time to be a Zune owner.<br /><br />(and I love the &quot;Clever...is so last week&quot; tagline. I truly hope they keep it in there.)<br /><br />EDIT: Clarified when. (Thanks julioangelortiz)

According to Engadget, the new Zune firmware won't actually be out Wednesday, but sometime later... hopefully when the Zune 2 hits stores (which sounds pretty silly to me).

Add in decent album art quality, improved desktop software, maybe a clock, and better use of Wi-Fi, and hey, they'll definitely be taking a step in the right direction. One can wish, right? ;)

Too bad they most likely won't be able to leave the "Clever...is so last week." It seems like it's just some internal kind of thing...or who knows.

Glad to be of help. :D

I can't wait to see what's new in the 2.x firmware. I'm hoping for better wireless capabilities and Audible support, to name just a few things.

I'm hoping for big things also but if its anything like the last two firmware upgrages all we will see is a new and improved Zune graphic when the device is turned on and a even better random function

We'll see!!!

heres hoping the new firmware ties in with the recent release of Internet TV on vista media centers. even though i havent been able to use it yet because all the videos seem to be down, i think it would be awesome on the Zune with its built in wifi and media centerish UI. :D

heres hoping... ;)

Gapless playback and a global resume function would make me happy, though I've pretty much given up on them...

MS left so many 'standard' features out of Zune v1 that they now have to go even further to impress me. Zune v2 needs to do more than fill all the needs us v1 users have been asking for. Zune v2 needs to WOW me, and so far I'm not seeing anything that's gonna wow me...

I just don't know... there are pretty good run downs of what the new software will do. I will always love my Zune, though I do wish that my red Zune was actually I don't know red! It really is a solid device. I stillwant to see Bluetooth in Digital Music Players. I would love to see the WiFi emplemented better. Either way I love my Zune I really like the Marketplace as it is , I am sure it can only get better. My wife has an iPod nad she and I hate the itunes software. Though I will say the new Zune interface on the device looks like a bad 70s flashback to me. I would love to see future interfaces be skinable. I love the idea of the tags. Sounds like they will be implmented better than the 360 gamer tags.
