I hear you on the obvious lack of generosity with the 128MB card. The Sprint Mogul isn't advertised as a multimedia centric device and comes with a 512MB card and can be had for less money (w/wifi no less) on a 2 year contract.

BTW I believe the Q9m uses the mini SD format rather than micro SD.

Not me. I'm not really feeling it. Its larger, heavier, and aside from WM6, doesn't offer much. Its even taken away a few shortcut keys! Oh, and its on Verizon which I won't go to.

I'll wait. Maybe if my current one breaks and I need to buy something...

So, the Q9m - a "multimedia" Smartphone is going to ship with a whopping 128MB MicroSD card. Wow, that's really generous. I looked around for the price of a 128, but could find it. However, you can pick up a 256MB for just 6.95 at our affiliate store. This has been a large problem not only with SmartPhones but also WM Pro devices as well. The only device available with a generous amount of Storage is the HTC Advantage, which can't really be construed as a phone, no matter how you slice it. No wonder people are so fascinated with the iPhone. You can actually use it as it was intended out of the box without having spend even more money just for a reasonable amount of memory to store music, pictures, etc. in.

Is there some sort of grand conspiracy among Motorola, HTC, Samsung, HP and MS that prevents one of them from releasing a reasonable sized multi-media phone that has 8 GB of flash memory? If not, then I say there must be some sort of OS limitation that still exists in WM preventing them from releasing this sort of device. Otherwise, how can all of these, otherwise successful, companies be this ignorant about these devices' capabilities and potential market? :confused:

I am currently on Verizon using a Motorola Q. I don't see myself leaving Verizon anytime soon but I do see myself replacing my Moto Q as soon as there is a decent alternative. My reason for replacing the Motorola Q is simple - I want bluetooth that works. I have tried many bluetooth headsets with the Q and most do not work well, even Motorola headsets. If the new Moto Q9m has better bluetooth then I might buy it but I am also interested in the new HTC Vox.

Yeah, it's not generous, but what did the original Q ship with? Nothing. (Well, the Sprint Q's manual mentioned a memory card, but that was a mistake, although Motorola and/or Sprint did make good on that.)

And since when have carriers ever been generous? Why would they want to cannibalize sales of add-ons (like a good-sized memory card)?

Finally, many of us here probably already have large MiniSD cards. I have a 2 GB one in my Q now. While another wouldn't hurt, I'd rather not end up paying for it in the price of the Q9m.

Now that's just silly. Here's some good advice on what to do with it -- use it as the place to store your backups and/or installation CAB files.

I have Sprite Backup back my Q up to my main memory card. My Q's Storage Memory is pretty full, and backups take 25-26 MB. That means a 128 MB card could hold up to five of them. Keeping the backups on a separate card is beneficial in case you lose your device (and the memory card in it). When you get a new device, pop the backup card in it and use Device Upgrade mode to restore it.

Yeah, that's it. :rolleyes: If there were, and it ever came to light, you'd see government intervention (like you did with PC RAM manufacturers).

More silly speculation. I have a 2 GB MiniSD card in my Q (and I've heard of people using 4 GB cards). I also have an 8 GB CF card in my iPAQ hx2795 Pocket PC. So the OS is quite capable of handling large memory sizes.

Just because they don't put large amounts of Flash in doesn't mean they're ignorant. How much does a 4 GB iPhone cost? How about an 8 GB iPhone?

I just did a PriceGrabber search (http://computers.pricegrabber.com/flash-memory/p/152/form_keyword=8+GB+flash/rd=1/sortby=priceA) on all forms of 8 GB Flash. The cheapest price there was $60. Maybe OEMs don't want to have to raise their prices that much. Many people are already asking why you would buy a PDA/Smartphone when you can get a decent laptop for the same price. (You don't need to answer that -- I already know the reasons. :))
