I find myself with a little free time for the first time in a long time, so I've re-started work on a little project that begun 3-4 years ago...

Anyone remember the "Microsoft Home" series of titles back in the 90's?

I spent a few hours today on the task of porting/converting/etc. a subset of DANGEROUS CREATURES to be usable on a Windows Mobile Smartphone (first device will be the T-Mobile Dash) has begun.

Here's some screenshots (actual screencaps of the working app on the Dash):

The title screen

The Index (selecting Index from the Main menu)

Creature Entry (selecting a creature from the Index)
This screen was hastily put together. I'm going to need to figure out a way for alternate display methods for these entries.

Getting to this point didn't take as long as I had expected. I ended up writing some batch utilities to automate the extraction and conversion of data from the original CD. I'm hoping that the rest of the work won't take as long, and subsequent titles, like ANCIENT LANDS, CINEMANIA, etc. will be even quicker.

I want to make the finished product freely available, but obviously because of copyright issues, I won't be able to do that. However, I'm thinking that it should be perfectly fine to provide my homegrown files and utilities for free. Then have people who are interested, track down copies of the original CD. Insert the CD, click a button, and the final results will be a directory on your PC that contains the converted application. (that's my thoughts for now).

These CDs can be found at thrift stores, yard sales, and flea markets for like $1.
