<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.spritesoftware.com/sprite-news/new-sprite-backup-solution-addresses-windows-mobile-storage-card-encryption-hole/' target='_blank'>http://www.spritesoftware.com/sprite-news/new-sprite-backup-solution-addresses-windows-mobile-storage-card-encryption-hole/</a><br /><br /></div><p><em>&quot;Sprite Software Ltd. today announced the launch of Sprite Backup 6.0, the newest edition of the award winning Microsoft Windows Mobile backup and recovery software. Sprite Backup 6.0 adds significant new functionality to its already powerful feature-set and is the first solution of its kind to fully support Windows Mobile 6 storage card encryption. It addresses an oversight in the design by Microsoft which rendered encrypted data inaccessible after a device hard-reset. It also offers additional off-device content protection with its remote backup capability which allows backups to be sent over-the-air. Sprite Backup 6.0 also now provides smartphone owners a way to move their entire phone content to a replacement handset. </em><em>Sprite Backup is designed to create a backup image of your mobile device, including contacts, calendars, data, applications, configuration and settings. This image can be quickly and easily restored to your device if ever you need to do a hard-reset, effectively allowing you to be back up and running within minutes, not hours.&quot;</em><br /></p><p><img border="1" src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/500/spt/auto/1186573247.usr266.jpg" alt="" /></font></p><p>If you have encryption turned on and want to backup your data then Sprite Backup 6.0 is the answer. What I like the most about the new version announcement is that it comes in two flavours - Sprite Backup for $29.95 and Sprite Backup Lite for $19.95. The Lite has all the features of the regular version except for the desktop based backup and remote restore functionality. Those are features I never used; I always trigger the backup on the phone itself and leave the backup file on the storage card. Overall Lite makes backing-up affordable. I think it is a smart move by the folks over at Sprite Software. The latest Windows Mobile version is now very stable compared to the earlier versions, and Exchange over-the-air ActiveSync ensures that your critical PIM information is always backed up to the Exchange server. I find that I am relying less on Sprite, but it like the health/car/home insurance is a necessary evil. You can check out the software details, and purchase or download the trial version from <a href="http://www.spritesoftware.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&amp;products_id=191&amp;utm_source=HMP-More-Text-Link&amp;utm_medium=HMP-More-Text-Link&amp;utm_content=HMP-More-Text-Link&amp;utm_campaign=HMP-More-Text-Link">here.</a> </p><p><strong>Update:</strong> We received word that Sprite Software is giving Thoughts readers a $5 coupon code. Use the code &quot;<strong>thoughts</strong>&quot; at the Sprite Software store. Hurry though, it expires August 17th.<br /><br /><br /></p>

This is great news but where's the upgrade love? I expected to see some loyal upgrade pricing for owners of previous versions.

The upgrade costs $10 - Go the "upgrade" option under the "support" menu

Does this back up software do differential backup (changes only)? I use to use ArtSSave but it hasn't been up dated in a couple of years. I like to do a full backup and then have the device run the differential backup on a automatic schedule.

The discount code "thoughts" you mentioned in the post does not work. The sprite store says "This coupon code is not valid for any product currently in your cart." and I have only the full version of Sprite Backup in my cart.

I bought Sprite within the last 2 months, don't remember when.
I went to the website yesterday after reading this post and saw the upgrade was $10 (I entered my email and was told that I qualified for the $10 upgrade). I decided to wait until later to purchase it. I'm glad I did, because last night I got an email from Sprite containing an upgrade link and an activation code for free because of when I purchased the full version. So, if you purchased recently and haven't gotten an email, I would contact Sprite.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I also tried the code "thoughts" and it did not work. Trying to find out why it is not working.

At least they got an update out there quickly this time. :)

We had contacted Sprite and it is now working. I verified it myself.

Sorry for the hassle.

Oops somehow missed this question, I guess was more worried about the coupon code.

No, Sprite does not do differential. It would be nice to have that feature, and save on storage space and have smaller archives.

Any reason for 5.2 users to upgrade (supposing the highly touted "Windows Mobile 6 storage card encryption" bit isn't that important to me)?

That's always a hard question - I imagine that there's a long list of bug fixes. But if everything is running well for you now and you don't plan on upgrading your device anytime soon, then you should be fine.

I like the new user interface. Much more intuitive and friendly IMHO :)
I got it free, but would gladly pay $5 for that alone.
