The sooner the better, Motorola, because the Q isn't all that hot anymore and you've been getting nothing but bad press lately."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/500/zt/auto/1185981123.usr6.jpg" border="1" alt="" /></p><p>When I first got my hands on the original Q last year I thought It was incredible. A year later it is still the same device basically. It has been passed by a hundred times over. The Q9 looks a little different but it is the same tired phone from last year. Motorola has once again, gone to sleep.</p>

I wish they did something about that screen. It looks so tiny :(

Lighten up guys! I like the Q9. We really don't have much too pick from on the smartphone front these days. It's this or the Cavalier really. I've been waiting forever for the Blackjack WM6 upgrade.
I don't understand why the Vox hasn't been launched anywhere, it's a much better format than the Q or Blackjack.

The Q9h is a pretty slick device actually. Twice the memory (256mb), fastest 3g device at&t is offering at the moment. I personally prefer smartphone over PPC, and this device offers the best keyboard hands down compared to any device on the market. The original Q had those bubble keys which were hard plastic that got very slippery and was not very pleasent to type on. The Q9 has a rubberized keyboard and square flat keys which make it easy to type and convenient to type on. I compared it side by side with a BB Curve, and the Q9 had a much more appealing form factor overall.

No WiFi is a deal breaker. Wake up, Motorola!

I disagree with you Jerry. I think the Q9 is a bigger change than you think. Sure, it's still the same shape and layout (mostly), but it's faster and GSM. :D

That is true. :)

WiFi feature I am sure is controlled by AT&T and other carriers. Only Apple has managed to get a free run because AT&T knows that the unit cannot install third party applications.

I would rather have the Vox S710, possibly AT&T will pick up the phone.

A smartphone with high-speed 3G or 3.5G does not need Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi would only matter if you cannot get 3G in your home or workplace and if that was the case, you would not select that particular 3G service provider, right?
Also, Windows Mobile smartphones come with VPN so you could use VPN to gain access into your corporate network from your HSDPA smartphone.
Why waste time searching for free Wi-Fi anywhere else if you can use HSDPA?
So, the only time Wi-Fi could be useful would be in the very rare cases where you are in the middle of nowhere where HSDPA is not available but miraculously free Wi-Fi is.
I like the iPhone screen and UI, but I need a real smartphone for real e-mail and messaging, etc. etc. and with a real keyboard, so I am waiting for the Moto Q9. BlackJack would fit me fine also but it is not WM6.
Is the BlackJack really going to be WM6 anytime soon?
Thanks,

All indications are that it is. :)

And that has absolutely NOTHING to do with it. The AT&T 8525 has WiFi AND 3G. They will be getting the BlackBerry 8820 soon, and THAT is their first BB with WiFi. No WiFi support is the doing of the manufacturer. SURE carriers can opt to disable WiFi. But, AT&T has shown they have no problems with WiFi with their Windows Mobile 8525 and upcoming BB 8820, and both of them can install 3rd party apps.
AT&T hasn't really hobbled their phones. They have provided all of the features the feature phones are supposed to have. Now, if this were Verizon, I can see THEM hobbling your phone to death and removing WiFi. Heck, they disabled full GPS in their BB 8800 to force people to use their VZNavigator. AT&T gives you full GPS and they still contract out premium GPS mapping service.

Ah, but it's more than that. Some people don't have data plans. Or, some people work for a company that has WiFi running all over the building. Why pay for data when you can use the phone's WiFi for nothing. WiFi is good for more than free WiFi access in Starbucks. ;)
