Reportedly, the backup generators at the Policlinico Juan D. Peron hospital in Argentina failed to activate after the power went out whilst an appendix surgery was ongoing, but rather than panicking, a family member gathered up a number of phones in order to provide enough light for the surgeons and anesthetists to keep on keepin' on. According to the hospital director, the operation went on without proper lighting for no more than 20 minutes, but thanks to the beaming LCDs, the fellow under the knife came through just fine."

This is one of those stories that can only be described as incredible. To think, only a couple nights ago I was beaming with pride over impressing my fiancee by using the light of my Samsung Blackjack to find her ring which she dropped outside at night. Now, I feel slightly foolish! While I'm sure I shouldn't have to say this, especially to our fine readers, this is one of those things that I have always wanted to say and never had the chance too — "Don't try this at home!"

Oy ve, well the good news is at least they weren't trying to use the mic or then they would have really been in trouble ;)

Wow - fortunate that they just happened to have sterile phones handy ... ;-)

During my vacation in India, where blackouts are unfortunately an occasional occurrence, I was surprised to find a lot of people using their handy cell phones as the flash-light.

Well I guess we know that they didn't use a Q. They wouldn't have got 20 minutes of light out of that device. ;)
