http://www.elecont.com/

Weather has become one of the most popular 3rd party applications to be added on a Smartphone. At least, in my opinion anyway. It's the first thing I add whenever I get a new phone or flash my existing device. And why not? Who doesn't want to know what the weather is like before you leave the house for the day.

Elecont has released an animated home screen plugin that will show you the current and future weather conditions on your Smartphone. I sure hope the application is smart enough to know when the screen is off, or the home screen is not visible and stops the animation. Otherwise this would eat through your battery pretty quick. If anyone gives it a try, please let the rest of us know how it works out.

Unessential gadgetry if you ask me.
Sure, it's nice to have the weather on your homescreen. But it's totally senseless if you can't see what the weather is like at first view. And it's totally senseless to have animated clouds on the homescreen.

That's my opinion regarding that.

There's another weather application to come for Smartphones in the near future, which will be very exciting IMO 8)

Well, yeah, I guess I can look out the window or turn on the radio to hear the weather. But by that argument, my phone doesn't need to tell me the time or date either because I can always wear a watch or look at a calendar.

I am using this program and find it helpful. It gives a bit more information than just whether the sky is cloudy or not. There is the temp, barometric pressure, wind direction and speed, humidity, haze factor, and three or five day outlooks. These readings are available in either metric or US style and in hundreds of cities around the world. You can tell the program how often you want to update the forecasts- from hourly to daily and how much information it displays on the homescreen.

And yes, the animation is programable too. It can be turned off or set to run for as few as five seconds. The animation only begins when you scroll to the weather on the home screen, otherwise it sits still.

There are lots of weather programs out there, and this one is well done for those of us who do want weather info on our phones.

Cool. That's good to know, thanks!

I'm putting my money on SBSH, since they already have a PocketWeather app for PPCs. The infrastructure is there to port to SP.
