Look what just fell into our lap! HTC has kept some of these devices on here pretty much under wraps but it is nice to finally get a sneak peak once and again. One of the standout handsets on here is the HTC Touch, with one small differentiation from the standard model. This one is CDMA. Codenamed Vogue, it could possibly get those Verizon-loving monsters excited. Something else which was long overdue is the HTC Excalibur which should also be making its CDMA debut pretty soon. That model is the HTC S640, which will pack a 2 megapixel camera, 400MHz processor, 256MB of ROM, 64MB of RAM, and gpsOne. Other phones on the sheet are the HTC Kaiser, HTC Nike (P5500), HTC Volans (HTC Wings), HTC Polaris, HTC X9500 which we are assuming is the HTC Shift, and finally the HTC Sedna. This will be an interesting summer, for sure!"</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/paxton-20070621-htc.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/><br /><br />Now these look interesting. Many new phones coming from HTC. They have some Windows Mobile Standard and Professional phones listed as well as what looks to be the Shift. I've been wondering what HTC's been up to lately. The Iris s640 looks interesting with a 2 megapixel camera, 400MHz processor, 256MB of ROM, and 64MB of RAM. Too bad for me that it's CDMA. You can see more about HTC's new lineup <a href="http://blog.cti-miami.com/pdf/HTC.pdf">here</a> <b>(warning: PDF file)</b>.

Oh. My. HTC is sure going to be unhappy about this - they just can't keep a wrap on their products...!

I REALLY like the smooth look of the Iris and I'd be all over it...if only it were GSM... :(

Smooth looks are good. But I think they have wasted a lot of surface area for that smooth look. I see more plastic than screen and keyboard. Grrr!
And what's with USB 1.1? Come on it is 2007. I want to use my smart phone for listening to music and it takes forever for even 100MB! Double-Grrr!

this is why i dig my Blackjack, if I'm not mistaken it is USB 2.0 and if it isn't, I can transfer files really quickly. Also, with an easily accessible microSD slot, I can just pop the card into my laptop and transfer things even faster ;)

Sigh. Nothing more on the Erato / S420? Some of us like the design. :?

I don't see anything that is overly exciting in this doc. I mean, the increased speed and memory is nice, but the design is kind of boring and there's still no USB2 support (as already mentioned), no candy-bar or flip based device. Just the same old Dash-like messenger device and a Vox like side slider. :(
Perhaps I expect too much. I mean, who said that new phones should be different and offer new exciting features?

I'd much rather have the Asus m530w!

Beeing from GSM world, there is really no interesting Smartphones (standard devices) on this list.
In general, the only one that I find somewhat interesting is Polaris with it's VGA screen, but compared to devices that are comming from Toshiba, iMate (Ultimate) and Eten, even that is nothing special.

+1 What happened to the Erato? Heck, for that matter, what happened to the WM6 ROM for the Excalibur?

YEAH! What happened to that? I thought I missed it or something while I was travelling the last couple weeks. Makes me happy to know it's not jsut me going crazy. Time to ping HTC and see what the deal is....

An interesting looking device--I would be tempted to have a closer look if it makes it's way to VZW. Clearly the one pictured is not a real CDMA device, not with a "G" in the icon bar. 8O
One interesting thing I think is worth noticing:
Several of the devices (including the Standard/Smartphone ones) have the Qualcomm MSM7200 chip. And what's so interesting about that, I hear you say?
Try take a look at the spec sheet (http://www.cdmatech.com/products/msm7200_chipset_solution.jsp). It's the same chip set used in the HTC Kaiser and is the chip that carries more or less all of its features. HSDPA, HSUPA, GPS and what seems to be a very decent 3D accelerator (should be better than the one in N95, or so I've been told) is all integrated.
Now, could the people in here with connections please make sure HTC doesn't disable the GPS, HSUPA and all the other nice things in those handsets? :D

Doesn't the Asus have a front facing camera for video conferencing? I would kill (well, not really kill... maybe papercut someone) for one of those devices ;)

On the topic of Qualcomm, isn't the import of handsets with Qualcomm chips banned in the US. :? I wish I had paid attention to the story.

There's something about it, but I'm not quite up to date about the standing at the moment. I think it will be settled soon enough, though, as it would seem to be a big hit on Qualcomm.
