I'm not sure why this is becoming such a common thing, but once again we're seeing a leaked ROM released on the internet before the carrier and device manufacturer has had a chance to finalize all the details. I'm not going to link to the ROM since it's far from official. I'm sure the resourceful amoung you will be able to find it (anyone linking to the ROM will have their posts removed). From what we've learned, this ROM is very close to the finished product. It's fully AT&T branded and everything seems to be working. The only exception is getting the alternate characters when you press and hold a key. Not too big a deal, in my opinion.

With any luck, the final ROM will be released soon and we can safely upgrade without the risk of losing any functionality. Speaking of upgrades, it looks like Samsung hasn't changed anything since the last ROM upgrade. There are a number of tricks to getting it to upgrade successfully. First, it will not work on Vista, so you need XP or Windows 2000. Second, you have to install the modem driver from the CD. Then you have to do a weird keypress combination to start the device into the bootloader mode. If you're looking to get ready for the official release, check out the steps and requirements from the last ROM released and make sure you have everything you need in place. ;)

I have not installed the current BJ ROM, after reading posts here about it, it seemed as if I would sort of be wasting my time. Now, when the WM6 ROM is officially released, what are ya'lls thoughts on whether I will have to install the current ROM before installing the WM6 ROM?
Thanks,
~Rob

You should just be able to install the new WM6 ROM without installing the previously released AT&T branded WM5 ROM (try saying that 5 times real fast! ;)).
All in all, unless they fix a few of the remaining issues like stuttering scrolling, key pressing for extra characters and a few others, you might as well keep the old WM5 ROM :(

My thoughts exactly. My biggest issues with this ROM update are:
(1) Internet Sharing no longer works
(2) Voice Command still does not work over Bluetooth
(3) No Windows Live Mobile
It's worse than current WM5 ROM.

As I mentioned in HoFo, this is showstopper for me. If I can't watch Slingbox via 3G then it's useless. This is most likely final cut and NOT beta because the Dash's version is 17741.0.2.1, and this leaked BlackJack is 17740.0.2.0 too close to call if you ask me.

I'm looking all over the net to find out DASH's final build#. Thanks. All WM6 SP should have the same build #. Microsoft signed off the code quite a while ago I'd imagine. However, OEM still need to tweak the drivers and cook their own ROM (hence the missing files). The problems I listed above do not exist in DASH. So it's Samsung/Cingular's fault.

Yes, but there are AKUs. I believe the currently shipping Dash is AKU 0.2. The BJ pirated ROM is a non AKU version, so its older.

I thought Microsoft want to do away with AKUs in WM6.

I took the plunge. No complaints. Nice new homescreen too. :)

So whats the deal with bluetooth on this upgrade? Does voice-dialing work at all. Seem to be getting conflicting reports.

I haven't heard anyone report success on this aspect. In fact, posts I read report that even the non-BT releated VC announcements not working reliably.

No, the AKUs aren't going away anytime soon. At least not that I've heard.

Pardon my stupidity...but does this mean no more tethering to my HSDPA device?

Check the hofo thread for instructions on how to USB tether. I think BT tethering is effectively disabled at this point. Check back with that thread for updates, though. I think they were trying to get the ICS bits from another WM6 SmartPhone (a Dash).

I just hope I can use it fully in my BMW 335C.
Otherwise the BT in my car is just a headset :(
