The Q9 will join the current Symbian X-Series devices, and will be offered with the usual X-Series flat(ish) rate data connections. Orange and T-Mobile, beware. In light of the 3 X-Series signature capabilities of Skype, Slingbox, Orb, Windows Live Messenger etc., it's clear the Q9 and other Windows Mobile devices are a perfect fit."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/paxton-200727-Q9.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/><br /><br />I've never actually heard of 3 but according to Modaco, it looks like they are going to get an exclusive on the Q9. I like this phone. It looks nice and has nice specs. What do you think? Is this what the original Q should have been?

Wonder if this is a European exclusive or worldwide?

Not sure. Are you familiar with 3? They are based in the UK but I don't know much more than that. Here's their website: http://www.three.co.uk/personal/index.omp

I have heard the name and have associated them as big European 3G players. But thanks to the Wikipedia article, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_%28telecommunications%29) I now know that they have more global presence than I thought.

Yes, 3 is very much a global player. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up scoring an initial exclusive on the Q9 in Australia. Alongside Telstra (Australia's main carrier), 3 does a stellar job at picking up new Windows Mobile devices.

Historically in the UK, there's been four carriers with spectrum licenses - Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile and O2.

When the 2100Mhz WCDMA licenses came up for grabs, the government opened it up to accommodate five carriers. 3 grabbed the "spare" license and become the fifth major operator in the UK. This all happened about 5-6 years ago.

They only hold a WCDMA license, so they sell only 3G phones. I think this is their first Windows Mobile device.
