hey everyone - i was just checking out the mobile tv streaming and i'm wondering what the difference is between slingbox (http://ca.slingmedia.com/page/cahome.html) and Orb MyCast (http://www.orb.com/)... it appears slingbox uses hardware/software and orb only software but requires a tv tunner...... anyone know what the difference is as it appears they both do the same job? thanks

I don't have Orb and haven't used Orb. With that said....

Slingbox works with any TV setup that you may have - it's a hardware box that sits between your cable provider and your TV set.

Orb is only for a computer setup.

I'm sure there's more to it, but that's all I know. :D

TV is very low resolution and additionally both depend on your bandwidth.

What it boils down to is; Do you have a screwdriver and are unafraid of cracking your PC's case open? With the time put in, it will give you far better results than any commercial solution. I'm personally running ORB, Hauppauge TV tuner, a cheap NVidia 256Mb video card with a 16Mb sound card on a 1 Ghz Athlon. From the demo units I've seen of slingbox, I wasn't too impressed.

The Slingbox, however, is a quick no fuss solution with easy to use software. Pricier but geared towards the guy that'd pay $60 for an oil change on his PC  :D
