It very well may be the worst kept secret from HTC in a while. The Vox Smartphone that we’ve seen so much about for the last couple months has been officially announced by HTC at 3GSM. I’m really surprised to see how thin this device actually is. I was expecting it to be considerably larger – like the Wizard is. Check out the images below and you’ll see a couple of comparison shots with the Dash. Let us know if you’re still onboard for this device. Or are your hanging on for one of the other cool Smartphones that have been announced? <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxFrontOpen-Large.jpg"><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxFrontOpen.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/></a> <!> <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxFrontOpenOff-Large.jpg"><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxFrontOpenOff.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/></a> <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxSide-Large.jpg"><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxSide.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/></a> <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxBackClosed-Large.jpg"> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxBackClosed.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/></a> <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxDashClosed-Large.jpg"><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxDashClosed.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/></a> <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxDashOpen-Large.jpg"><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxDashOpen.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> </a> <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxDashSide-Large.jpg"><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070212-VoxDashSide.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/></a>

My main phone for the past 4 months is a Samsung SGH-i320N. I love it. It's natural that I'm thinking of upgrading to the upcoming Samsung i600.

Now, this device sure makes it very difficult to justify the i600 (presumably that i600 will still run on WM5).

I love the form factor, although not sure this design is really that ______ (insert praise-worth adjective). My SP5 has been great, but improved text abilities would be welcomed, especially with Crossbow.

Any idea if it sports USB2.0? I swore my next phone would have to have it.

I seriously doubt it. In a related question, does anyone know if they improved transfer speeds with Vista's new WDMC? Correct me if I am wrong, but I remember reading that activesync is incredibly slow (slower than usb 1.1 speeds) in transferring files.

If HTC kills the Wi-Fi. The one thing that amazes me is that Cingular is willing to put the iPhone with Wi-Fi on its network but not any WinMo device.

I love this device.

Mike, how big is the screen? Is it as big as the one on the Dash?

ActiveSync 3.x was slower than USB1.1 speeds. However, AS4.0 was a rebuild that addressed that issue and can handle USB2.x speeds. The reason your still not seeing fast transfer rates to your phone is that most Smartphones are still using USB1.1 chipsets. :( And out of all the 3GSM announcements, only 1 made mention of USB2 on the phone. So, either the other phones have it, but they don't see it as a selling point, or they don't have it and are not willing to mention it in the press release.

With push becoming more and more available, it is almost a moot point. I have almost totally abandoned connecting my devices to my PC. I'm tired of playing the connection lottery every time I try to use it.

Spoken like a man who pried the media buttons off of his 3125. I can think of one or two uses for USB2.0.

Thanks to 3G and applications like Orb, we will be able to get the same experience for media files. ;-)
