After years of speculation and a couple spy shots of devices, HP has just announced an iPAQ Voice Messenger device based on Windows Mobile 6 Standard (previously known as Smartphone edition). We don’t have all the details of this hot new device, but we do know that it has Bluetooth, WiFi, a 1.3MP camera, and Windows Mobile 6 Standard. We’ll post more details of this device as they roll in, but for now you can enjoy the snazzy press photo along with a couple more device shots. Remember to click on the image to see a full sized version. Let us know what you think of HP’s entry into the Smartphone arena!

Update: I've got the details on specs for this device. It will be a quad-band GSM/EDGE device running a TI OMAP 850 200MHz processor, 64/128 MB RAM/ROM, WiFi (b/g), MicroSD, Bluetooth 1.2, 1100 maH battery for 6.4 hours of talk, and a small 176x220 display. :( If the screen resolution hasn't turned you off, then you'll also want to hear more about HP's special Voice Commander software that comes pre-loaded and more than 20 voice commands. You can read about that on MobilitySite.com (http://www.mobilitysite.com/2007/02/ipaq_voice_messenger_windows_mobile_6_sm.php)

Looks like a nice device, should be interesting to see when and where (which continent) it will be released. Touchscreen would have been nice, still a nice smartphone though!

because it's a voice messenger device. I've got some more info on this and I'm adding it to the main post now.

The display might be a problem. I would like to see one though.

I think it looks like a very promising phone. Obviously, a better display would be nice, but that isn't a deal killer for me.

is this the same HP device that was spotted in a bar or two way back when (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9816&view=next&sid=fdfdd8160a70d7c48a020877e3e939f9)?

Where is the HP (I mean Compaq) that was the innovator in the mobile device arena? This device looks 2 years behind schedule. The overall size, the screen size... <yawn>

Perhaps that was an early model. The specs on this device seem like they are from 2005.
